History of Winter Ridge Natural Foods Market

Winter Ridge Natural Foods Market is the largest natural foods store in the two northernmost counties of Idaho. It is located in the heart of Sandpoint and only blocks away from beautiful Lake Pend Oreille.


Gregg Prummer established Winter Ridge in 1997 when his son was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Prummer found it hard to find gluten-free food in Sandpoint and decided to start a store that would cater to different dietary needs. He also used his knowledge of herbs and homeopathy to offer a large selection of supplements. Winter Ridge quickly became a successful, full-service natural foods store.


In 2010 Greg sought to expand Winter Ridge’s offerings and visibility. Today Winter Ridge is a growing enterprise. It is a vibrant and attractive store featuring organic produce, an in-house made-from-scratch deli and bakery, local free-range meat and eggs, environmentally friendly household goods and a diverse selection of supplements.



We are dedicated to providing the best customer service and highest quality foods in the region. We wholeheartedly support the local economy and our area’s growers and producers. We provide a unique selection of high quality and organic foods, wines and beers, and supplements sourced from around the corner to around the world.


Community is at the heart of our mission. Winter Ridge is a completely locally based enterprise employing 70+ people, purchasing local products and services whenever possible, and further supporting the community by providing educational events and by annually donating over $30,000.00 plus in goods and services to local organizations.
